Tricia

Tricia is a founder member of AFFECT and currently is a member of the Board of Trustees (B of T) .She holds the post of secretary, counsellor and the training co-ordinator.

Tricia wants to promote and raise awareness of members of the public and of statutory and voluntary organisations, of the impact on a family when a crime is committed. To challenge and reduce the stigma attached to them as the result of a member of their family being incarcerated or detained under the mental health act.

Since her involvement with AFFECT, Tricia has developed links with other agencies delivering training, presenting workshops and study days to enable others to work with those whose family member is imprisoned, within their own organisational setting.

Tricia, a humanistically trained counsellor, has several years experience of teaching and counselling in this specialised field, which involves working with adults, children and group work. She also has a private practice and her client base involves working with a variety of issues, which have included: relationship difficulties, self harm, physical, emotional and sexual abuse, low self esteem, eating disorders such as anorexia, bulimia nervosa, over eating, depression, drug and alcohol abuse, anger management. She works creatively with care and compassion and believes individuals have the power to change.

Tricia also works as a volunteer counsellor for SAGE a charity which works with older people. She counsels students and members of staff at a local college. She also teaches counselling skills and theory at two local colleges from basic to diploma level. She has also taught active listening skills to peer group school mentors, anger management groups and loss and bereavement, teaching Police Family Liaison Officers and VOICES (formerly SCOPE) and has addressed members of the Hampshire Association of Counsellors.
